We “eat with our eyes” first, and in order for us to be satisfied with a meal it needs to be full of color, not to mention flavor, and the right mix of nutrients and fiber. Our bodies are designed to crave and respond to colorful foods – its mother nature’s way of making sure we get the right mix of all the vitamins, minerals and anti oxidants that are abundant in the rainbow of produce we find at the grocery store and at the local farmer’s market. Whether you are a parent trying to get your child to eat more healthfully, or working on your own nutritional habits, my philosophy is that true satiety and cravings for healthful foods such as fruits, vegetables, whole grains, seeds and nuts will happen once the processed foods are minimized and a whole foods approach is adopted.
